BACKGROUND AND TRAINING
Amanda is a Harding University alum, where she graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Art and a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling. Amanda became a Marriage and Family Therapist in Alabama and opened her private practice, Connect Relational Counseling, LLC in 2014. She has experience working in community mental health facilities treating people with serious mental illnesses, a drug rehab camp for teens, a psychiatric intensive care unit, and a group practice for family counseling.
Amanda specializes in treating couples using evidence-based, systemic models such as Emotionally Focused Therapy and tailors her treatment to the couple’s needs. Amanda enjoys working with individuals and families as well, and has had success in treating a variety of presenting problems (trauma, adjustment and lifecycle transitions, anxiety, depression, compulsions) utilizing mindfulness-based approaches and Internal Family Systems work. She has been specially trained in Family Systems Theory and related family therapy models. While studying this fascinating discipline, she came to realize the importance of self-awareness, balance, and connection for each individual. She feels these are the key components of a peaceful and joyful life and wants to share these with her clients. She feels blessed to be able to serve people through counseling.
