BACKGROUND AND TRAINING
Dr. Hirsh is a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Alabama. She earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Memphis. Dr. Hirsh obtained her M.A. in Counseling and her B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She completed her Postdoctoral Fellowship in Developmental Psychology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and Monroe Carell Junior Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. Dr. Hirsh completed her Internship at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center. She has clinical experience working across multiple settings including private practice, children’s hospitals, residential treatment centers, university research facilities, day treatment centers, and vocational rehabilitation facilities. Dr. Hirsh’s research focused on identifying career interests in adolescents with emotional and behavioral disorders and vocational identity formation among individuals with different types of disabilities.
Dr. Hirsh began working in private practice in 2010. She has extensive training and experience in psychological assessment, including formal training to diagnose autism spectrum disorder through the Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt and Western Psychological Services. Dr. Hirsh has assisted many individuals with disabilities and their families with gaining services through the school system and acquiring intervention services from specialists in their surrounding community. She also provides therapeutic services to children, adolescents, and young adults. Dr. Hirsh uses an eclectic and integrative approach that adapts to the needs of each client. The specific forms of therapy used by Dr. Hirsh include play therapy, behavioral therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. She maintains a passion for helping individuals with a wide range of psychological concerns and learning differences and works hard to help clients reach their optimal level of functioning.
